We’re quite fascinated, at All Terrain, with the long-forecast robot world takeover. We’ve posted about it before. So naturally, this “real life RoboCop” story from BBC News is thoroughly enjoyable.
We’ll briefly recap..
Beginning in March, a prison in South Korea plans to employ three 5ft-high “automatons” as guards. The new prison guards move on four wheels and are equipped with cameras and other sensors that allow them to detect risky behavior such as violence and suicide.
A professor at Kyonggi University says, “As we’re almost done with creating its key operating system, we are now working on refining its details to make it look more friendly to inmates.”
South Korea, gunning to be the world leader in robotics, is so taken by the technology that the government is building a Robot Land theme park in the city of Incheon. Planners hope that 2.8 million people will visit each year.

No word on whether or not these new roboguards will be equipped with guns (or other totally awesome robotic weaponry) to wrangle in unruly prisoners. But at least they’ll look friendly to inmates!
The government hasn’t indicated how much time inmates will be given to comply with the automatons demands. But we’re guessing 20 seconds.

If movies have taught us nothing about robots and human safety, it’s that nothing can possibly go wrong. Thank you South Korea. This is gonna be.. excellent!
