Earlier this month and to usher in the new year, we launched our Fave Five — a new series exclusive to the blog, which spotlights the personal tastes of the tastemakers who make up All Terrain. Each month will have a different consumer-based category, while each week will feature a different All Terrain’er.

This month, we’re downloading you on our favorite mobile apps. And up next is the company’s co-founder and COO, Sarah Eck-Thompson.

1.) Scrabble | $.99
I have always been a word dork and I have a totally competitive personality. Laying down some bingos on unsuspecting opponents is my favorite way to end a long day.

2.) Skype | Free
Video calls on the go … I mean totally unimaginable when I was a kid. Loaded this app on my sons’ iTouches to Skype with my parents in California and they just shrugged and said “so what?”. Kids these days … so hard to impress!

3.) Chase | Free
Very easy and convenient to check balances, pay bills and transfer funds. Camera enabled check deposit interface fails more often than it works, but otherwise, this a good corporate app.

4.) Tiny Wings | $.99
This is a seriously addictive little game where you launch a little bird (whip-eeeee) off of hills, into the clouds and from island to island until nighttime catches up and he goes to sleep. I think I sprained my hand playing it all day once and so it was on hiatus until our 20 month old discovered it recently.

5.) Fandango | Free
Excellent mobile version of the movie search and ticketing website. Great for those “maybe we should see a movie today” moments.

Honorable Mentions … basically whimsical “why not” purchases:

FatBooth - $.99, alters a portrait photo to add 100 lbs (good dieting incentive)
Star Wars Lightsaber - $.99, iPhone your way to become a Jedi or Sith Lord
Flashlight - $.99, very handy
Tesla Toy - $.99, digital version of a science lab icon … a great baby distracter.

We’ll spotlight another staffer’s five favorite apps next week. As always, thanks for keeping up with All Terrain!
