Broom Sales Spike in Chicago

I was lucky enough to attend the last Chicago Blackhawks game against the San Jose Sharks. Yep, the one that sent them to Stanley Cup Finals. To say I had a good time would be an understatement.

The pure awesomeness started for my husband and I as soon as we walked out of our apartment with Hawks jerseys on. Since we live so close to the United Center, we rode our bikes and were greeted with horn honking and fist pumping the entire 2.5 miles there. Before we headed into the stadium, we stopped into the Billy Goat for a burger and a beer and again, we’re met with a wave of high-fives and fans generally freaking out.

When we finally made it into the UC, it was total mayhem. Guys in full headdresses, war paint, people shaking brooms and chanting and little kids, seemingly without parents, running at full speed up and down the concourse. It was great.

As if the fans need any more stoking of the fire, the stadium was treated to an amazing video/lighting/sound montage which totally took the energy level off the charts. With each passing period and goal, the sheer volume inside grew louder, the fans rowdier and the apparent realization that this could be it. The third goal, then the forth, then the buzzer. The place just exploded.

In that moment, every adult felt like a kid. I even took a lap up and down the concourse…

Two more wins to go … LET’S GO HAWKS!!!
