The Smartest Home
Much to my excitement, the Museum of Science and Industry recently reopened their Smart Home exhibit. I’ve had a fascination with the modern prefab since learning about them a few years back but had actually been inside of one until last weekend.
The home, built for the Smart Home: Green + Wired exhibit, is an MKD design called mkSolaire™, a three-story, loft-style home, suitable for an urban environment. The Museum’s home is the first mkSolaire to be constructed. My favorite features included: the Green Roof – a place to take in some rays and grow your veggies, an open air dining/living area that connects the home with a tricked out garage full of green technology including a hydroponic garden to grow produce in the winter. Oh yeah, and the blender in the kitchen that takes its charge from the countertop underneath (meaning it has no cord) was pretty cool too.
The outdoor space was just as great with standing plant beds, natural gardens containing plants native to the area and a windmill that helps the home produce so much efficient energy, the Science and Industry actually sells energy back to Com Ed.
Forget the pony, I want one of these.
