Fist bump to Rob for sending today’s post!

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it’s the longest and largest surface area 3D painting ever created. In November, British artist Joe Hill designed the 12,000 square foot piece at Canary Wharf in London.

At first glance, it’s just an awesome image. But look a little closer… and welcome to the crafty world of non-traditional marketing.

How much do you think Reebok paid for that?

If you’re interested to see the piece in its early stages, here’s Hill’s outline, before he really got down to business:

Checking in with a few sights and stories from inside this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, courtesy of our very own Kevin Boyer. The annual technology trade show has become the world’s largest and one of the most regarded forecasts for tech trends of the coming year and beyond. Closed to the general public, CES regularly showcases cutting-edge product previews and major announcements from the world’s leading brands — and All Terrain is on the inside!

Shortly after arriving, Kevin sent his first update. The subject of which read, “It IS Vegas!” He went on to explain that these talented young ladies were on hand to encourage CES attendees “to enter the drawing.” A drawing for what? We’re not sure… and not sure that it matters.

Next up, Kevin sent over this shot and called it “a great example of trade show experiential marketing.” Given that experiential is All Terrain’s bag, we’re particularly interested in these types of displays. Kevin continued his review, “It’s a well lit modern booth with a great design. They’re playing current music. They had a great looking and approachable staff. It definitely made me want to buy these mobile accessories.” Fascinating dissection of the subconscious subtlety that truly does impart a first and lasting impression.

His final CES check-in of the morning is certainly intriguing to the technophiles. Kevin explains, “Victronix Swiss Army is here with a knife-shaped USB drive.” Read that again — a “knife-shaped USB drive.”  Rad. He continues, “what makes this one unique, aside from the design, is the massive size (up to 128 gigabytes) and the ability to store files on a secure section of the drive. Security? Thumb imprint. These come without the knives in case you don’t want to lose your beautiful Swiss Army USB to TSA.”

To supplement All Terrain’s presence at the big show, we found an insightful piece from PC World, which contends that the headline for CES 2012 is unanimous: Mobile Technology Will Dominate Everything.

Insiders say that tablets will become significantly less expensive, laptops will get even thinner and cameras will become more like smartphones. Apps will be everywhere, including cars. And Microsoft’s phone-inspired Windows 8 will inch closer to release.

Thanks to AT’s Kevin Boyer for giving us a look inside CES! More on-the-scene reports from Las Vegas as we get them…

January 5th, 2012

As we usher in a new year, we’re bringing you a new view inside All Terrain. We want to go beyond our day-to-day duties as an integrated marketing agency. Beyond what we’ve done and what we’re doing for our clients. Beyond industry predictions, trends and web gems.

Because an agency is only as creative as the people who comprise it, we want to spotlight the tastes of the people who are All Terrain. Every month, we’ll explore a new category of consumables — from fashion and food to music and movies. And every week, we’ll feature five favorites from a different All Terrain tastemaker.

After all, we’re an agency of creative influencers with a national reach, navigating world-class cities and extracting, every day, what it means to be truly brand aware. Because, at some point, a meaningful connection was made with the brands that we choose to use, we’re just paying it forward.

This month, we’re spotlighting mobile apps. Whether fun, functional or addictive, these are our personal must-have apps for your smartphone or tablet.

1.) Mint | Free
It compiles all your bank accounts (from checking accounts to store credit cards to auto loans) and tells you exactly what you owe and what you’ve got in cash. It automatically links to your accounts so you have up to the minute info (especially useful when at the checkout wondering if you’ve got enough moolah to make the purchase). It categorizes your spendings, too, and tells you if you’re going over what you typically spend (i.e. “you’ve spent $88 more on groceries than you did last month”). Keeps me in check!

2.) Gilt | Free
If you don’t know about Gilt.com, check it out. It’s the app version of the website that sells designer duds and cool home furnishings at a discounted price. But things go fast, so I love the app because no matter where I am, I can snatch up the goods!

3.) Walgreens | Free
I can refill my prescriptions with a snap of a photo and it alerts me when they’re ready for pickup. I can also check how many refills I have til I have to harass my doctor for a new prescription!

4.) CAC | Free
If you belong to any of the Chicago Athletic Clubs — this app is great. It lets you see which gyms are hosting which group fitness classes at which time that day. So if I’m ready to head to the gym and unsure of if I’m feeling like a spin class or boxing, I can check the calendar and see who is offering what!

5.) Alarm Clock | $.99
I don’t trust the free version- I allowed me to oversleep once and I never forgave it. So for a buck, I upgraded and now I can wake up to the likes of Eminem and Adele and I can hit snooze and a new song will play 10 minutes later!

We’ll spotlight another staffer’s five favorite apps next week. As always, thanks for keeping up with All Terrain!
